: As physical attendance in schools increases, academics say there is a visible impact on students’ mental health.
Education officer Ravindra Katolkar said, “We have seen that there has been a steady increase in the number of kids returning to school every week. This was a trend that we saw even in the earlier phases of reopening.” Till the time of filing the report, the updated attendance statistics were not available. However, Katolkar said the increase in attendance figure was ‘considerable’.
For academics, this was along expected lines. Dilip Bose, principal of Sangam Madhyamik Vidyalaya, said, “As soon as a few students start attending classrooms, they tell their classmates who are still in online mode. Through word-of-mouth, the enthusiasm spreads. Parents also speak to each other and their confidence increases in the school’s ability to handle students in this post-pandemic era safely.”
