Academics divided over increasing school operational hours
As Pune has permitted schools to operate for full day (like pre-Covid era) to help with completion of course, many academics say doing the same in Nagpur may not be such a bad idea. Ashok Gavhankar, general secretary of Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VJCTA), said, “There is no doubt that the course backlog is huge and educational institutes are bound by the time limit of roughly 3-4 hours a day. I believe we can do this with at least Std X and XII students as they students as they are eligible for vaccines and many have taekn their first dose too.”
Maharashtra English Schools Trustees Association (Mesta), which has members in Nagpur too, said that it’s a good idea. “We welcome any step which is taken for the benefit of students. Pune’s guardian minister Ajt Pawar also talked about keeping schools open for seven day and that too is a positive step.
